Medical Lake Middle School

GRADES 6TH-8TH

Principal:  Matt Ziegenfuss

Assistant Principal: Shelby Schoesler

Medical Lake Middle School celebrates student success monthly by using the PACE (Partners Advancing Character Education) program. In addition, a committee of students and staff meet and plan throughout the year to find ways to prevent problem behavior, develop pro-social skills and address behavior concerns by using the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) model.

They've adopted Project Lead the Way, and have an incredible STEM Program provided by the STEM grant received by the school district.

STEM

at Medical Lake Middle School

A recent STEM grant has allowed students at MLMS to enjoy a rich variety of science classes and technology use.

Sixth graders explore AutoCAD and robotics.

Seventh graders try their hand at Medical forensics and

Eighth graders explore Electrical circuits.

All of these are in addition to their regular science classes.

There is also an after-school Robotics club where students compete with other schools.

The other student electives include basic technology, art and outstanding music classes, where one or two of our students are consistently selected for state band and choir participation.

Instructional technology at MLMS is second to none.

With five computer labs, our students quickly become familiar with their Google Drive accounts and are immersed in project-based learning.

The history department’s curriculum is online and students use Chrome carts in the classroom to access information, research, share, and create.

Several teachers provide assignments and help through their Google Classroom accounts, so parents are always in the loop.

Other after school activities include yearbook staff, chess club led by a local parent, sports for all grades, math is cool, and positive after-school intervention classes for students who are struggling in their core classes.

Student Leadership

Our students take on leadership roles with the National Junior Honor Society.

This year they are partnering with a local organization to help foster children provide gifts for their families. Students are also taking a leading role in training others and implementing our anti-bullying program.

Our student ASB has one fundraiser a year, the Fund Run, where students run for a morning to bring in pledges and win prizes such as bikes, kindles and hundreds of other items. This year our students brought in $20,000 to support sports and student activities at MLMS.  We have a great community of faculty, staff and parents who work together to provide the best for our students.
